10 actual complaints RTÉ actually received about The Weather

Lots of interesting views here. Very interesting.

IF YOU’RE EXPECTING a nice sunny day but the heavens open instead, you probably don’t blame anyone, because it’s Ireland and that’s what happens here.

Some people, however, believe Met Éireann are entirely at fault for not adequately warning us.

Documents obtained by Christina Finn of TheJournal.ie show that a lot of people have serious beef with The Weather.

1.

You stated Monday and Tuesday would be warm and sunny. What a joke. I took two days off work and it was cloudy and raining like November. You managed to ruin my weekend and days off getting my hopes up and activities planned.

2.

This person suspects there is a sinister motive to England not being included in the European forecast (sent pre-Brexit vote):

Can you please tell me why England is not included in the European weather forecast on TV. Every other country is covered and then we just ignore our nearest neighbour. Seems petty.

3.

This person just wants to get rid of the damn woodworm…

On Radio One you forecast dry [weather] for the east of the country. On that basis I arranged to have seats treated for woodworm. The heavens opened… arrangements were washed out. Could you give me a reason why you got it so wrong?

4.

…While this one wonders how they can ‘get away’ with it all.

How can Met Eireann get away with wrong forecasts so much, I am baffled? If another service provider got it wrong so much, that service provider would be long gone…

5.

This complainant has had it with the Dublin bias:

Since when is Dublin a region? Are the Dubs now considered a fifth province?

6.

Viewers are, of course, affronted by what the female reporters are wearing:

One can hardly believe that we are having the coldest weather at the moment by the way some of the female presenters are dressed.

Really. They have a big problem with the clothes.

I find Met Eireann reports more glamour orientated than weather detail…

8.

This viewer wants the meteorologists to stick to the day job (which is forecasting the weather, so…):

Boy, did you get the weather for the weekend wrong. 19 to 21 degrees and sunny? Stick to your day job and trying to win the Lotto.

This person wants rain predicted to the hour:

People got up in Kerry this morning and there was no rain. I think a key issue in this case for forecasters to say is 1. When the rain will reach the West. 2. How long it will last in any location. 3. How quickly it will move across the country.

10.

This viewer was miffed that the weather was actually good:

Hi, living in Donegal. What happened? Where is [Storm] Abigail? Listened to your warnings expecting severe weather, it’s now 11.40 and calm!

Ah lads, ye can’t win.
